Online English Courses vs. English Schools in Indonesia vs. English Schools in Canada

After you have received the results of your standardized English test (IELTS or TOEFL iBT), you will have feedback about which English skills you need to improve and you can start to look at study options. There are three viable options: (1) studying English online, (2) studying English at a school in Indonesia, and (3) studying English at a school in Canada. All three methods have different strengths and weaknesses.

While evaluating which type of program is best, you should consider the following criteria:

Cost

All methods have different costs and you will have to review which method suits your budget.

Intensity

Most modern research in learning English recommends that students should study real English spoken by native speakers, not simplified English which is unnatural or incomplete. We can judge the intensity of the English by how much real English is used in the class room and the expectations of the teachers.

Targeted Advice

In order to improve your skills you need to know which skills to focus on and that knowledge will come from feedback from the program. We can evaluate the advice by ensuring the teachers are qualified and if there is a systematic approach to receiving feedback.

Consolidation

Students need as much exposure to English as possible to truly master the language. We can determine how much consolidation you will receive by evaluating your opportunities to speak English with others and how much English you are exposed to in your daily life.

Choosing which method of English study depends on your needs and budget. Which type is best for you?

Next time we will look at how to evaluate which programs are the best. We will give you questions to ask schools and online programs.
